Meet The Team
Leesa
Mentor
With more than 20 years as a veterinary nurse and over five years as a trainer and assessor, I’ve been lucky enough to combine my love of animals with my passion for helping people learn and grow. I’ve always been inspired by the comfort and joy animals bring the way they create connection and calm, especially during stressful moments.
While working with vet nursing students, I met many who struggled in traditional learning environments but thrived when given hands-on, animal-assisted support. Watching their confidence grow sparked my commitment to helping children and young people experience that same sense of connection and growth through positive interactions with animals.
Joining Canine Comprehension allows me to bring together my teaching experience, my love for dogs, and my dedication to supporting young people. As a mum of two neurodiverse children, I understand the importance of empathy, flexibility, and tailored support. I’m grateful to be part of a warm, collaborative organisation that genuinely makes a difference in the well-being and learning journeys of young people.
Meet my therapy dog

Lollipop
Lollipop is a gentle, soft-natured dog who takes her time warming up to new people, but once she feels safe, she forms deep, loving bonds. As her trust grows, her playful side comes out. She’s the happiest running, exploring, or curling up beside someone she adores. She loves treats, tummy rubs, and finishing the day perched on the back of the couch with her head resting on a shoulder.
She has a naturally calming presence and has supported her human brother and sister through some big life transitions, including helping them settle in when they moved house. Lollipop also played a special role in helping her human sister build confidence with reading, offering quiet companionship until reading aloud became something joyful.
Coming to school is one of her favourite adventures. She thrives on pats, attention, and meeting new young people who brighten her day just as much as she brightens theirs.
